Welcome to...what now?

Welcome to DustyLugs.com, a blog that aims to capture, share, quantify, document, and extrapolate what for me has been a lifelong compulsion: the need to find roads, trails, gullies, gulches, beaches, forests, mountains, river beds, and anything else that gets the lugs of my all-terrain tires nice 'n dusty. 

Dusty. Not muddy. Mud I can do without. 

Why exactly? Well, because despite having been driving and riding and exploring far and wide for the past 30 years, I can't get enough of the sweet dusty stuff. In fact, as I've aged up, I need the dust and heat more than ever before. So by writing about and sharing more of what I find irresistible--exploration and adventure by four wheel drive vehicles and occasionally, motorbikes--I hope to (like so many others) inspire people to do more of what they love. 

And getting the lugs on the tires on my truck dusty is what I want to do, in amazing places and with the people I love. 

Who's Dusty?

I'm Dusty, nice to meet you. I've been driving, wheeling, traveling, camping, riding, and exploring this amazing planet for the past...several decades. In addition to being a welder, a house painter, a hobbyist mechanic, a gas jockey, and a business consultant, I've also been a magazine writer, a blogger, a travel journalist, and an author of several non-fiction books. 

These days, I work, travel, drive and write for a living and for fun. I spend too much time at a desk, like most people. So whenever I can, I point my truck south-ish, toward somewhere dry, dusty, and a little out of the way. Over the years I’ve broken things, fixed things, taken wrong turns, found better ones, and picked up a lot of practical knowledge and damn good memories. 

What to Expect

Dustylugs.com is where I put all of that and more, including:

  • trail notes and trip reports
  • straightforward gear reviews
  • thoughts on truck setups and what’s worked for me
  • simple overlanding tips
  • photos and stories from the road

Nothing flashy, nothing overhyped. Just real experiences from someone who’s been doing this a long time and still enjoys it. This blog is part hobby, part long‑term project, and part excuse to keep heading toward the places that feel right.
